Went to my LCS on Friday and made a trade: In exchange for (all junk) $18.85 US in 90% silver, $34 in 40% & 10 war nickels, as well as $25 US, I obtained: One 10Fr French 1906 (0.0933 AGW) One 9/11 US medal (one Oz. Troy) Two 3 mark coins (Prussian, 1910 & 1914) Three Italian 5 Lire coins from 1926, 27, 28 all in XF/AU (All of the following are silver) Three Swiss 1 Franc coins Two Swiss ½ Franc coins Three Canadian 5 cent coins (1900, 1909 & 1920), Ten Canadian Dimes (6 sterling) Fourteen Canadian Quarters, (4 sterling, including a 1900 & a 1927 in VF (key date)) Eight Canadian halves (all 0.800 fine) One Canadian Dollar (1965) One 20 cent Newfoundland from 1912 (VF/XF) One Newfoundland half 1919C (VG) How did I do?
Well, you did get a gold coin. Not in the mood to do the math, how much do you figure you gave to him/her?
Dollarwise? Total siver value @19.11 is $427.58. I figure I could have gotten $2.1 each for the 40% halves, & 12.5 - 13 times face if I waited for a major coin show (and risked losing value on the coins). 75 cents for the war nickels. I figure about $400. Looks like I paid too much? Or does the 1927 & the Lire balance it out?
And the mistake wasn't too bad. It was more due to concern that silver will continue to drop that I "valued" the silver lower. As is, I still have too much Junk 90% and not enough "coin". Plus I like the Lire, Marks and the 9/11 medal (and happy I didn't pay $60 to the mint to get it).
