So today I went to one of my 'Dump Banks' if you wish to call it that. Though last time I dumped of coins was like a month ago. So I went to see if I could do a trade and if not I would just get the cash. So went in. Waited in line for 10 minutes because a bunch of people were in there. So I FINALLY got to a teller who I seem to ALWAYS get. I do not know why. So I showed her the 2 boxes of nickels and said could I do a trade? She said to me she got news that if I were to deposit or even TRADE boxes there would be a charge per roll because it costs them money (I know) and it was not my home branch whatever that means. I have deposited coins at this one branch which is the same line Soctiabank and have never had my problem and I know it was not my home branch. So I accepted I could not dump coins anymore there which I thought was stupid but to make thing worse the Customer Service Manager came up and said I couple of things to me which really mad me mad and NO ONE should say to any customer. 1. You MUST return the coins to the bank you received them from. For all she knew I could have received it from their the week before without her knowledge. 2. This is the worst one. She told me it took too much of her tellers time to bring the coins to the vault and back and fill out paper work at the end. Okay it takes them 2 minutes or less usually to be done with me. There were people in the bank when I arrived who were STILL talking with a teller. She basically told me she does not want to deal with me anymore and does not want me as a customer because I take too much of their time. It is their job. If people need to wait in line for a minutes longer so be it. It is not my problem you do not have enough tellers. She would deny it but I had a witness who would say the exact same thing that I would be saying. So I just left with too boxes which they switched but no more. I then contacted support and filed a complaint which he then said for me to contact the branch manager which I did and who I knew by previously talking to them. They are very nice. One of the best ones I have talked to. So left a message with her. I also said that if you do not want me as a customer I will cancel my debit card. Once again bringing me back to who do they hire. They seem to hire mean, depressed people for some reason. I will tell her that my mom with 10 years plus with previous banking experience cannot get a job at Scotiabank and you hire these people. My mom even said that was very rude.
Sorry, but your sense of entitlement towards the bank is much more rude than they were to you. Enough said.
Contact their offices.. And if all else fails, just close your account. IF they make it clear they don't your business, fine. If they insult you like they did, not fine. Start a fire, get that that sales manager fired.
I don't want to to seem like I am number one and must be treated with the royal treatment. That is the last thing I want. Just don't say to me not to bring my coins in because I cause a backup. It really is not my problem. Not saying I do not feel bad about causing one if I did. And I am saying that not to be rude again. If you don't want there to be any backups put another teller in while I am there but don't bring it up on me. That is one option. In my opinion too I do not cause any backup anyway.
Well I don't know what was bad about that. I just put those there because I would not be sure if I would classify it as one of my dump banks.
How is that entitlement? I'm fairly certain that counting coins, going to the vault and filling out paperwork is in their job description. If they want to say you can't exchange rolled coins; so be it. Don't start arbitrarily making up rules just because I'm that customer who makes you do more work then processing a deposit ticket. If they want to make a rule it needs to be a policy implemented company wide. Furthermore, not only am i customer at my banks but I'm also a shareholder. I luckily have not had to play that card before.
It seems to me that the biggest issue was the timing. In my experience when banks aren't busy, they are much more willing to work with you. I talked to a bank manager last week who said he'd gladly help me during slow times of the day/week, he even asked me to leave my name, number and a list of coins I would want to search! I'm not even a member of this particular bank and it was the first time I had ever been there. On a side note, I think it was strange the manager told you that you had to return the coins to the bank you got them. The bank I pick up halves from told me I couldn't return them there, not that I would anyways
I dump my halves where my competitor picks his up from. He must have watched doomsday preppers. He does dump at one of my pickup banks. I told them I didn't trust customer wrapped halves and needed fed boxes. I think scotia bank seems like dbags but if you want to play be sweet like honey. Bribery and flattery.
I have walked away from banks without coin after noticing the long line in the lobby - I want my pickups to be as easy, painless, and unremarkable as possible for the workers, especially since I'm not a customer at most of them.
So I went to another bank. One of the best banks and the new head teller tells me I cannot order AND tells me it will cost $8 because it costs them to which I know and she also told me this. She said to me that they are very heavy to lift. I KNOW. I have to carry 3 boxes out of the bank. Gosh they make more then the average person and they complain because they need to get up for once and put some boxes on a trolley. If she wants to complain, complain to the manager, not me.
So the last thing you want is the royal treatment, but you expect a BUSINESS to cater to you wants (not needs) for free? It seems that they were kind enough to help you out, yet you took advantage of said kindness and are now upset because they said enough is enough? You admitted that this is not your branch and that you know it costs them money to provide this service, so please explain to me how you are a customer? cus·tom·er noun 1.a person who purchases goods or services from another; buyer; patron Again... no royal treatment, but they should be kind enough to open another window for someone who thinks it unfair to pay for services rendered. In your original post, you made it clear you didn't like having to wait, but cannot seem to grasp the fact that you wants likely take more time than the average paying customer? Of course, it is the bank who was rude and not you...okay, gotcha. rude c. Ill-mannered; discourteous: If you are both a CUSTOMER and SHAREHOLDER at your bank, the situation is different then.... isn't it? Remember, this is just the OP's "dump bank" where he/she isn't even an actual customer; big difference.
The simple fact is you cost the bank money both in time and resources. They have to spend time counting all the coins you dump and also have to either store them until someone else needs coins. Banks also pay fee's to have coins delivered to them when you order coinage and also to have excess coinage picked up. The delivery and pick up of coinage costs banks money they don't get this service for free just cause they are a bank. In any business when a customer becomes too much of a liability you drop that customer. In this case the bank was even nice enough to actually allow you to continue if you paid the fee's which is nicer than a lot of banks out there that would simply just cut you off entirely.
You could just get a home equity loan at one of these banks and I bet they wouldn't mind taking your change.:thumb:
Well first off when I sign up with Scotiabank and see no reason why I have to stay are one bank. I have a CIBC account and no problems with this 'home branch' thing and this is he same with RBC. I have never denied that I would not pay just $8 extra a box is not happening. I said I will pay them the exact cost it takes them to get them to the bank. In a customer sense that you meaning I have a debit card with them then yes I do and am a customer. I know my dad since I am only a student has a mortgage and does ALL is banking through Scotia and owns A LOT of their shares should be able to get boxes for free no cost even his son??? We are paying more in interest then they would ever make off me buying boxes from them. I asked him to talk to his Financial adviser for me since he got the ATM fee waved. I am not unreasonable just I am not going to pay WAY more then I have to. If I have to own shares so be it I will buy shares. I like the stock market. I think it is a good way to make money instead of loosing if I were to pay 8 dollars a box.
once i was cashing in dimes rolled up and a roll was short one dime i was stupid i told them i crh worse thing to say they want me to bag the coins and send them in to be counted which isnt a bad thing just takes time so even thou they knew what i was doing they still were willing to work with me, so sorry to hear they didnt offer a solution. i find dont tell them what you are doing and keep going to different branches and i never return where i receive from. I try to dump where a different cash vault company serves like brinks, loomis so i dont see those again. hope you get things straightened out..
Poor little thing, that's outrageous. My bank never treats me that way. Of course I got mortgages there, deposits, personal and business checking accounts. Now there's a coincidence!
Wow, talk about a sense of entitlement. Maybe I a little confused, but where I bank, a "debit card" is drawn on a checking account. My debit cards are tied into my checking accounts. So my first question would be, whose account is your debit card tied to? And who actually puts the money into that account? Second question, how big is said account? Large amount of cash, with heavy transactions, or small, just enough to keep the account open and give you some spending money? When you say "we are paying more in interest..." are you referring to you and your father, or simply to Dad? If Dad is paying the mortgage, and adding money to your debit card, then Dad (not you) is the customer. Sorry to be so blunt, but the quote above just screams "entitlement". I can see why you're upset at the branch.
