I think I see some doubling in the date on this Lincoln cent... Tried to find info on it, but looks like machine doubling in the date and "LIBERTY."

    What do you think?

Yeah, that’s a N-S hop the coin took. You can see a little on the Y in LIBERTY, too. Haven’t seen one this extreme on a cent of this early a date, but it’s nonetheless just a one-time event due to the striking, it didn’t come off the die, die didn’t look like that.

Not to clear but it looks like the MM took a hit to. Nice find.

Nice, you can easily see the "shelf-like" doubling of MD

When comes off the die the impressions will be pretty much the same height off the field. Just think on it. These are two squeezes into the die that are just a tad enough out of line with one another so as to be noticeable. Why would one or other be flatter? Both are hubbed at the same psi. And then there will be some notching, and this doesn’t have any of that, either. Still, a nice early example of strike doubling, and a more extreme one than we see on most of these early ones, too.

A nice MD coin. It has clear and defined shelves. Nice find.
