I bought this coin on a lark, curious as to what PCGS meant when it was certified as "Genuine Machine Damage". Even in hand I don't get it. Does anybody?
I can't help you on the Machine damage, but I can say I love the toning on the reverse. I'm pretty useful eh?
I am venturing a guess that they are referring to the Bell on the reverse. There does seem to be a fairly large nick near the bottom. Or it possibly on the bell itself, where the crack runs. Just a guess. I am curious now what others will say.
My guess is that somewhere on the coin you will find doubling for Machine Damage Doubling or MDD. Someone probably submitted it as some kind of a doubled die, they determined it wouldn't grade hence the Genuine, and identified the doubling as Machine Damage rather than hub doubling.
