I might have posted this in the "what's it worth" forum, but I'm really just wondering if others have seen these before. I found it in a batch of coins I purchased several years ago, and have kept an eye out for other examples. Never seen a photo of another, or another up for sale, but the description for RPC 1619 (v1: 304) seems to match: AE 14mm (mine = 2.2g), Obv: Macedonian shield, Rev: MAKE/ΔO/ΝΩΝ. Do I have the ID right? It seems it can't be as common as the typical Macedonian shield/helmet type, which I also have (or elephant type, for that matter)... Apologies if the image isn't especially detailed (neither is the coin, though). -- Curtis
RPC cites 6 specimens, so uncommon at least. Value, especially in that condition, is probably around $20-$50
Yes, I see that now. Presumably there are many more of them out there. Curious I've been unable to find any others pictured or sold recently. Maybe I shoulda looked harder. Then again, sort through enough small bronze coins and you end up finding such things once in a while. My rule: if uncommon, but not worth a lot, I keep em for interest value.
