Mine may be the most worn of the group but is proud to say 1.7g. Checking the common sources, they seem to range from 1.4 to 2.2g which seems like quite a range. All three of ours seem to be good quality silver but some I see online appear less so (which could affect the weights as can wear).
Amazingly awesome addition ... congrats, C89 Ummm, but I don't get it? ... why wouldn't you bust that baby out of its slab?
that is a fantastic coin! the perspective the engraver put on that helmet is awesome, cool horse, and sweet tone.
I've kinda/sorta made the decision to keep ancient coins the way I get them. If I buy it raw, it stays raw. If I buy it in a slab, then it will probably stay in the slab. I made this decision after breaking-out a Lysimachus Tet that was very high relief and would have been better off if left in the slab. In fact I have returned it to the same (broken) slab so it would be protected. This little Macedonian coin may be worth a little more money & be a little more liquid being inside a slab. It will stay in the slab for the time being. These photos depict how my (small) collection is currently kept within 3-ring binders. The system works nicely for the size & scope of my (small) ancient collection. Raw coins displayed 10 to a page. Both sides of the coin are visible without removing the coins from the book. With the book opened as depicted, you can view 20 coins (and 20 labels) at a glance. Slabbed coins (up to 9 coins per page) in Eagle slab pages: Close-up photo of some slabs in Eagle page: Sorry for the long reply but perhaps it will be interesting to other folks at CT.
Very, very cool, C89 ...... Hey dawg, although I am admittedly a 100% "slab-snob", I do appreciate your logic and your photos make me smile (your collection looks absolutely fantastic) ... but I smile because each one of my coins gets its own 3-ring binder page, which includes the coin-pouch itself, plus at least one super-size photo, and then a page or two of description and/or interesting/historical facts, etc, etc ...... yah, I'm soooo fricken anal, man, I should be in B-side pornos!! again => super coin and I totally respect your collecting-strategy ... Keep those cool coins comin' my friend
This is the final photo I guess. Obviously it can be difficult to get a good photo of a coin inside a slab.
