Hello all. I bought a storage unit with lots of random stuff and in one of the boxes I was suprised to see a strange plastic tube of nickels.. I knew nothing about it but it had the name m. Meghrig and sons on one end.. And a 5 on other end.. I thought they were old silver nickels at first.. But seems to only be war nickels had some silver? The end nickel says 1939. Is there any value to these sealed tubes? Most I've seen or read about were 50s from the bit of reading I've done? Anyone know approx value or any info on them? All I've seen is how to open them as it must be tricky too. Thanks in advance
Welcome to CoinTalk Justin. A picture is worth a thousand words. I really think you're gonna have to post a pic if you've come across anything special. M.Meghrig has been a coin flip maker and supplier of coin supplies for years. I've never come across anything special by the company but you really gotta post a pic to get a definite answer, is what I think.
Ok I think I've got some.. Dang phone camera doesn t seem to excited to take good pictures tho. To much reflection esp on ends with plastic and coins
Pictures are fuzzy. I bought a roll of nickels that arrived in that exact tube. They were advertised to be a variety of dates from the late Forties thru early Fifties, but ended up being ~ ten 1957 and thirty 1954. Great condition all, but hardly what I expected.
Ya ill try to get some better pics when home. Wife got iphone she says does pretty well.. And ya geezer most of them ive read about were 50s? Not 39.. But I can expect tube to be mixed dates and places?
Here’s a few more not sure if they’re much better or not. Thank you all for the warm welcomes and info
The previous 'owner' probably bought it as is sometime, and I would expect that normally it would be mixed dates/mm, otherwise collectors usually put a mark on the tube to remind them. These often are difficult to remove the tube due to aging of the nickles. If they do not gently come out. Put the capped container in the freezer for a couple of hrs and try again as the metal contracts more than the plastic and gives more space to slide out. Jim
It is hard to imagine anyone paying more than face value for them as is. I would look through them for anything good.
