Chinese Lucky Money. That's what the US Mint calls it. According to Chinese Folk Lore a serial number starting with an 8 represents wealth and prosperity. These all start with four 8's. They are sold by the US Mint for $5.95 for each note. I picked these up for half of that so maybe the folk lure is correct. Lol

The black seal in the lower right by the green seal is on the packaging from the mint. It's notbon the bill itself.

Those would make a fine gift and the price was good. Less than than a cup of Starbucks. I'd put one in my collection.

The slits in the packaging will damage the corners. Remove the holder from the packaging.

I’m a sucker for these, in all denominations. I’ve gotten quite lucky on some of the numbers I’ve been issued. The $2 is the bottom note on a Lucky Money sheet and the $1 is Lucky Money Year of the Tiger note.

Wasn't so lucky for the person that paid the full price. LOL

Nope, not at all. That's why I've never bought one from the mint. It's just another gimmick.

Some collectors enjoy these Lucky Money notes knowing full well they may not appreciate in value, or worse yet, depreciate. They’re just like all of the collectors that buy ASEs and Mint sets. They just like collecting.
