Looks like Crawford 314/1b, Sydenham 577. Great find!

It really puts how long these coins circulated into perspective. This piece was minted in 105 BC, the isle of Britain wasn't even conquered until 43 AD, during the reign of Claudius! Unless it came over through Celtic trade, or during Julius Caesar's brief expedition, that coin circulated for at least one hundred and forty-eight years.

    wayneburton,

Is your weather over there warm enough to let you detect this time of year? We have 6+ inches of snow covering everything except the roads. Was it a researched spot or a random find?

NICE haul from from a Fisher 1265X operator..... (oldie but goodie)

its from an area to be known as a roman fording point across a stream about a mile from a roman fort....the weather over here is good for this time of year...dry and not too cold at the moment
