Looking at everyone's incredible acquisitions for 2016, thought I'd join in as well. Unfortunately a number of my top favorites of the year are pretty modern.

Japan. Toyotomi Hideyoshi. 1587. Tensho Tsuho. AR. Kyoto. Jacobs/Vermeule J2. Ex HD Rauch. Very rare silver cash coins issued only to officers with Merit by the Shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Tang Dynasty. Empress Wu Zetian. Qian Feng Quan Bao. AD666. A 1 year issue struck during the Qian Feng period of Emperor Gaozong under the influence of the Empress Wu who eventually succeeded him as the 1 and only female Emperor of China. Ex Stephen Album.

Pre-Yuan Mongol Dynasty. Genghis Khan. 13th century AD. Hartill 19.1. An extremely rare silver coin attributed to Genghis Khan for his Mongol Dynasty before the conquest of China and establishment of the Yuan.

Very cool coins!!

Naturally, the Daric and the Medallion caught my eye....especially since I have yet to add even a silver version of the former.

 

So many cool and historical coins! Loving the charlemagne (naturally...), and the Hideyoshi and empress wu (I guess ghengis khan too...)

 

Thanks.. my 2016 acquisitions was a mix of ancient and modern historical significance themed coins.

 

I don't collect Asian Ancients, but coin 1 and 2 would fit very nicely in my wheelhouse. Beautiful.

@Loong Siew ... Most of your captures have been on my Target list... AR Genghis Khan; AR Any China / East Asian; AV Daric (was looking at one the other evening)... Charlemagne... You must have exquisite taste!

 

Nice coins, LS. My favorite is the Charlemagne.

 

I'm betting-on the 2-4-1 trifecta (ummm, that's horse gambling lingo)

Thanks @Alegandron .. these ones you mentioned were part of my historical greats theme.. ended with Charlemagne but then came Hideyoshi. Aiming at an Eiraku from Nobunaga someday

 

Yeah.. all these Asians are at best medieval. 1 & 2 would fall nicely in the ancients slot..
