Got a couple nice LRB I dont see too often (specificaly the last 2 SPES & SECVRITAS) of Constantius II (top 3) and Constans.
Also been tryen to get phtos of these 2;Thessialian League and Galerius. The glossier pic of Galerius showw more detail but I like the other pic a little better.
Very nice coins randy, I specifically like the first two from your first post. I have a question for you.... your second post, the Galerius coin I think... what are the three dots for to the right of Genius on the reverse?
Hmmm curious.... I can see why you like the second one more... but they are both nice coins.... Maybe someone can tell us something about the dots.
Thanks that one has the nice dark gloosy gree patina. I got them locally and he did a good job on them
Yeah I think that one is my favorite of the lot. Great looking portrait. The bust of the one below it, the third in your first post is quite nice too... are you sure that is Spes on the reverse though? I don't know much about coins from this time period, but I always remember Spes as holding a flower and lifting her skirt.. It looks more like Virtus to me.... but that is just a thought...
sorry was being lazy "SPES REIPVBLICE" emperor standing left Constantius II AE3. 341-346 AD. D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed head right / VOT XX MVLT XXX, 4 lines within wreath. SMK Epsilon in ex CONSTAN-TIVS AVG, pearl-diademed head right / GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS, two soldiers holding spears and shields with one standard between them, dot on banner, dot to left and right of top of banner. heres teh other 2 Galerius AE Follis. 311 AD. GAL MAXIMIANVS P F AVG, llaureate head right / GENIO AVGVSTI, Genius pouring libation from patera, S to left, three vertical dots in right field, MKV in ex. ric 65? Thessaly - Thessalian Confederacy. 196-146 B.C. AE 20 Head of Apollo, laureate, r. / Thessalian Pallas Itonia advancing right, hurling javelin and holding shield.
Ah, okay, cool. Thanks for the descriptions. It says he is holding 'spear and patera' but it looks more like a globe... and it looks like you can see part of a shield behind him, right below the hand that is holding the globe. Nice coins.
yeah i think its a globe, I copied that of of wildwinds, like I said, lazy got a new puppy so didnt sleep lol was wrong mink too i think, hard to make it out though edit: all the others I see say globe as well.
Ah, okay... new puppy eh, well that and school will definitely make anyone lazy... good luck with all that heh.
Antioch it is. You have clues. The other choice with the dots is Alexandria but they used the obverse legend with MAX for this issue and a bust rather than a head. Also, I am reasonably sure the last letter in the mintmark is theta or workshop 9. Alexandria only used four shops (so 9 is not a choice) while Antioch had 15. SMANtheta seems right. Finally, There is a matter of style and Alexandria was a bit distinctively different from other mints but your coin seems closer to what is expected of Antioch. My example of Antioch is shop Z (6) but similar.
A guess: Rome mint RIC 318 with a wreath mintmark between R and the workshop letter PBTQESZ (pick one) but this has a round top so it is not T or Z. That's just a guess.
