I think the lowest circulating Kennedy is the 1970-D at 2.15 million (the 1999 was 8.9 million). The lowest all together was the 1998-S matte proof with just over 62,000 made.

Well.... the 70-D may not have circulated but you know what I mean.

You heard right. The 1970, 1987, 2002, 2003, 2004 halve all have lower mintages than 1999, but none of them were ever released into circulation. Of all of the INTENDED circulating Kennedys, 1999 has the lowest mintage.

Nice! thanks guys....I have the 1970 D and 1999 P & D...I want to collect low mintage Kennedys and 90% and 40% silver dates. So I wanted to be sure of the dates.

Thanks, this board rocks, replies are so fast! :D

    Hello,

As I found in coinfacts.com 8.9 million were mint in 2000p (2000d is 10,682,000), is it possible that they produced exactly the same amount in both years?

...about the 1998-S matte proof...I've been looking through ebay...and there are a lot 1998-S there's how do I know which is the "matte proof"? (if there's any)...also is that 1998-S Silver or Nickel Clad?

    Thanks! :)

The '98-S Kennedy Matte Proof half was only issued as part of a set with the '98-S Robert Kennedy dollar commemorative. It was struck in silver.

There was however also a '98-S silver Proof Kennedy half struck that year. But this coin was a brillant Proof with mirror like fields. The fields of the matte Proof are not mirror like.
