Loving this box

Went to the bank today and picked up a half dollars box and a pennies box.

Got skunked on the half dollars box other than a couple 71's, that were probably AU 55(there was a bunch in there. I got the 2 I liked best) and a 97, probably MS 60.

The penny box is where it's at! I found a 42 wheat, a couple MS coins in the 60's, 4 MS coins in the 70's, 6 MS coins in the 80's, a 1970s (large date though) and that was all in the top row of rolls. I get to the second roll in the second row and this beautiful 68 S falls out with great cameo(pic below). So far this is a dream box.

There was another 68 S in the same roll I hadn't seen yet. just not as pretty. This one was much more circulated.

A business strike can not have a cameo, unless it is prooflike which this coin is not. It looks like an AU business strike, not a proof in case you were wondering. Still a nice find, 1968s has the lowest mintage in the memorial cents series.

So then am I just seeing some kind of chemical interaction on the coin?

Toning. Ok, so now I know what that is called. That's what I was talking about but I'm still learning the terminology. I'm glad you commented this, now I know.

I separate the 1968-1974 "S" cents from the other copper cents. There was a time though where I had forgotten about them and so when I recently went to separate them all by date and mint, I found that I had more than I thought.

I see it doesn't take much to impress you, lol. Ah, but nice finds, I'd have saved those all too.

Lol nope not much. I know a lot of the guys on here look at every coin and think about how much it's worth but I still just get excited to find something in great shape with a lot of age, no matter the value.

I drove around yesterday to every single bank in the 2 cities next to mine to ask for halves. At the end of the day I was down 1/4 tank of fuel and I came out with 20 40%ers and I really nice 79 S Susan B. Anthony narrow rim. I loved it lol.

Your enthusiam reminds me of myself, especially when I first started. 20 40%ers is nice. This thread has gotten me in the mood now to stop at a couple branches and pick up some rolls.

Lol! Hey, that's better than nothing. And I've had nothing in more boxes than I care to count. :D

But this is what it's about, guys. And anybody criticizes you for not playing the money game, you just tell them you're too busy having fun to worry about that, and tell them it emphatically. :)

No. But I'm guessing has has to do with worn out down to looking similar to cameo lol. That's my usual Kind of cameo!
