My only complaint is they did not use a prong holder... I want to see how fat this coin is! And no, I will not be busting it out to see
Hard to tell from the pictures, but maybe the scratch on the cheek/jaw that runs vertical? My favorite of the few in my collection: @jwitten 's coin is an intermediate. @Mikey Zee 's is a new style, and my own is a classical. Anyone have an archaic and transitional type to add to the lineup?
There are scratches on both sides but the X in the reverse field could be intentional. An advantage of a slab is you can not see the coin all that well so you could miss these scratches. Certainly do not break it out. It would not sell well as a RAW.
Yes, there is an X on the reverse. The lighting in that picture did not show it very well. It is pretty light.
I have I think 3 owls right now, but my other 2 are the new style. I had a few olders but sold them already.
Nice rescue effort, Alegandalf => sweet sledge and anvil (yup, that's quite the cool coin set-up you've got there!!)
Yes but it shows very well in the other one in your eBay listing. It is amazing how small changes in the lighting can make a scratch look raised in one photo and recessed in the other. These coins are very good silver and scratch easily. I credit NCG mentioning it when they slabbed it.
Just sold it (still in slab, to another ancient dealer) for a nice $200 profit. These owls have been easy sales!
