I have 4 boxes of error coins I inherited. Here is a sampling. Don't know their value or what they all mean. I have to log the rest of them. These are the markings on the envelopes they are in. Any value here? Advise. That's a nice lot of error coins.Are they all American coins? Have you ever had any off-metal & wrong-sized coins such as a Sacagawea $1 struck on a $1/4 planchet or a dime struck on a cent planchet? Aidan.
Error Coins I don't have any Sacajaweas and as far as the others you mentioned go, since I don't know anything about them, I can not answer your questions until I have a chance to go through 4 boxes of coins. I'm just beginning to list them to try to sell them. Are any of them interesting or worth anything? I was going to send the list to an error coin dealer for an offer. Can you recommend one to me who will be honest?
Welcome to the forum macki. You've come to the right place to learn. There are many very knowledgeble and experienced collectors here that are willing to share what the know those new to the hobby. That being said, one thing you will here repeated alot is that it is very difficult, if not impossible to judge a coin without seeing it. In hand is better, but a digital photo will go a long ways here I'm not the most experienced here, but many of the coins listed sound common as errors go and unfortunately don't command a premium. Most of them sound like die-fills, die-chips, and/or strike throughs. Some of them though do sound promising, but again, without seeing the coins, I'm just guessing at some of previous owners shorthand/notations. Again, I'm not an expert so will let the "resident experts" at this forum chime in. If you want to learn more about error cents, this sites FAQ section is a great place to start. The combination of 1/4 and 1 USA $ worths at least 2450 USA Dollars, upto some years old data. A reference to that major error appeared in the internet some years ago.
