Hi there. I am a numismatic novice in the most pure form. I live in las vegas, and as things happen in las vegas, i was given a tip. Apparantly, a major casino cage has gotten its hands on a large collection of $2 bills. uncirculated/mint, all in sequential order. they are making them into books of 50-- with like gummy on the sides so that you can tear them out like a book or a pad of blott paper. naturally, i was very curious about this. tomorrow i am set to go down and purchase 10 books worth... how much will these be worth? ballpark? what could i get for them on ebay? Paul
I would say somewere around the range of 2 dollars a piece... to me regular 2 dollar bills dont really fetch any premium however blue ink and red ink 2 dollar bills might fetch a small premium... for them being in sequental order they might have a slight premium but not much, of course with the right marketing you could sell them for a million if you wanted... are these 2 dollar bills uncut? if so there premium might increase for those who want them as show pieces but if they are cut they still might work... all in all it depends on the buyer... me... I wouldnt buy them simply because regular 2 dollar bills arent worth it.. I would rather invest in the older red's maybe blue's... who knows somebody might want them just because they are in sequential order... and if there uncut and in sequential order that alone might create a high premium for somebody who wants them as a show piece... This of course is my opinion... somebody around might just love regular 2 dollar bills and would be willing to pay a high premium to get there hands on a set of sequentals... especially if there uncut as they can frame them and hang them up as a show piece.... I'm not a real big currency fan, but, I happen to have a stack of them in crisp unc in sequential order, my numbers on the notes are slightly lower than those of the auction listed.... From what I understand the star notes carry more of a premium than the regular issues, and the 1976 ones have a nice premium as well. But, I believe setting aside a stack of them might actually be worth it, it may be 20 years down the line, but, who knows how much they will be worth down the road....If they stop producing the 2 dollar bills, then that leads to an obsolete currency, which ups it pretty much I would guess, speaking in terms of coins
Hi, I'm not really sure what it is you are describing, but that's not the way they are issued from the BEP. Perhaps that is some type of promotional campaign by the casino? Anyway, that type of "packaging" (for lack of a better word) would not add to the numismatic value.
$99.95 per book Just kidding. Welcome to the forum. The idea is not new. Many years ago when I was a young attorney, there was a lawyer in San Francisco who always carried a "pad" of $100 bills - the atrophied brain cells say "Jake" something or other, but then they are atrophied.
If you ask your banker and you're willing to part with $1000.00 at a time, most will be more than willing to get you stacks of $2.00 bills.
Interesting Interesting that you mention the whole "book" idea by the casino Steve Wozniak of Apple fame did the exact same thing and had a problem with it at a vegas casino... Perhaps after the interrogation and subsequent realization that the bills were good the casino took to the idea as well! http://www.woz.org/letters/general/78.html
