Edit: the contest portion of this thread has ended.

Final results announced in Post #89.

Ooh boy, my credit union actually had some half dollar rolls today! :)

    20190927_114557.jpg

There are five rolls. 20 coins per roll, so 100 coins total.

It's fun to dream of finding Franklin or Walker (or earlier!) halves in rolls. And I know that occasionally happens to some people (not me, so far).

But let's get real. There are only 100 coins here.

I did hit a big stash of 40% silver halves once upon a time, many moons ago. But have only scored one solitary 90% silver (1964 Kennedy) ever. Obviously I don't do this often, because who can find halves at the bank?

    Let's play a little game. Here's what I'll do. I'll have you...

Predict the total number of the following coins I will find:

    • 90% silver (1964 & earlier)
    • 40% silver (1965-70)
    • Bicentennial clads (1976)

I will wait until 5+ people have responded, then open the first roll and reveal its contents.

Remember, you're guessing the future totals from ALL FIVE rolls.

    Then...

I will wait until 5+ more people have responded with their predictions, and open the second roll and reveal its contents.

Even if you guessed before the first roll, you may guess again. You may update your prediction one time after each roll is opened.

    So then...

I will wait until 5+ more people have responded with their predictions, and open the third roll and reveal its contents.

You may guess again one more time, and/or update your predictions. See the pattern?

    Then...

I will wait until 5+ more people have responded with their predictions, and open the fourth roll and reveal its contents.

You may guess again one last time, and/or update your predictions.

    Then...

I will wait until 10+ more people have responded with their predictions (or updated their earlier guesses) and open the final roll and reveal its contents.

If any of you guesses the exact totals correctly, in all three categories (90%, 40%, and Bicentennials), you will win the prize.

What's the prize? I will split the value of any silver I find with you.

If anyone correctly guesses the exact number of coins found from each of the three categories, I will send you a PayPal gift for half the spot value of all the silver found.

So you might win nothing, if I find nothing. That's a very real chance.

Or maybe I'll find a tiny bit of silver and you'll win a tiny prize. Also possible.

I doubt any of us is gonna strike it rich, but at least y'all get to share in the anticipation and root for me to strike some silver, right? :D

(Edit: "booby prize" clause: if nobody guesses the exact totals, the person who got the closest will win one of my new custom elongated Wheat cents.)

@cpm9ball- correct- you're guessing the future totals from all 5 rolls (100 coins).

@Randy Abercrombie - I like your optimism! Don't necessarily share it, but I like it. ;)

    Hope you're right!

Y'all may update your predictions after each roll is opened.

I think that a lot of non-collectors aren't aware that pre-1970 halves contain silver. Last Christmas I asked the lady at the bank for all the halves she had for stockings. There were twenty bucks worth and I was surprised to find four 40% halves in that stack entirely by chance.

Hmm... Roll #1 looks like all clad. The edges all have that coppery band. No telltale white edges. :(

    Let's see...

    ROLL 1 RESULTS:

    (0) 90% silver
    (0) 40% silver
    (2) clad Bicentennials

Hmm... not the most auspicious beginning, but hey, we're only 20% through, on the first roll.

Y'all may now update your predictions.

OK, counting @don oswald's extremely optimistic guess, we have four. One more, and I'll reveal Roll #2.
