    New to the forum. Anybody know what this coin is? It is definitely silver, and I placed it next to a quarter for size comparisons. It is definitely old. I personally think some type of Spanish New World coin brought back to Spain from the silver mines...possibly found in the ocean. Who knows? Should I have it graded and do people even grade something like this?

    Thanks,
    James

    @shiftinator, welcome to CT!

    I know nothing about these, but that seems to be an excellent specimen...I like it!

    How did you acquire this?

    I'll be looking forward to responses from our more knowledgeable members!

    Yes a Spanish Cobb. Mine below was found on the Carolina coast in 1989 after hurricane Hugo battered our state. They are hand struck pieces of history. The TPG’s will grade them. Heck they will grade anything these days. Without provenance there isn’t a huge amount of intrinsic value in these however there is a great deal of historical value in them. There is a lot of information available on Daniel Sedgwick’s website about them. Just put his name in Google and his website will pop up.
