Looks to be 1971 D, possible die break. Looking for other opinions.

Hello. Was informed by very knowledgeable expert that this was an "opaque blob" that was added after strike. Just wanted some second opinions. This coin weighs exactly 3.1 grams. There is also a similar small defect on reverse. Just doesn't look plastic to me but he is the expert and is very hard. Very strange to say the least and has been a fun research project.

It's either glue, epoxy or something on that line ...

If it was added after the strike, then it must be PMD!

    I agree, it's a foreign substance.

It's a 1971-D, worth a full cent. You could probable remove the "blob" and in the end, it will still be worth one cent. PMD. :)

I think your excellent close-up photos show the key -- you can see a "seam", a crack between the blob and the coin's surface. That wouldn't be present if it were a die break.

    Welcome aboard!

Yup. It's some sort of crud.
And might I add, I am happy to see a new person who can take decent pictures. Kudos to you my friend. :)
