Tentative Settlement Reached in Denver Class Complaint

The United States Mint and the female employees, who filed a class complaint alleging sex discrimination, harassment, and retaliation at the United States Mint's Denver facility, have reached a proposed settlement. Agency counsel and class counsel have been engaged in productive mediation over the past several weeks to arrive at this settlement, which is subject to the approval of the EEOC Administrative Judge.


On Thursday, class counsel and the mediator who facilitated the settlement negotiations met with class members in Denver to go over the parties' progress and provide preliminary details of the settlement.


The terms of the settlement include a payment of $8,990,000 for damages, fees, and costs to the class, which comprises permanent and temporary female employees of the Denver plant. The terms also include injunctive relief, as well as the appointment of an independent monitor at the Denver facility, for a three-year period.


By entering into the settlement, the Agency and the class seek to avoid the potentially massive expense, delay, and burdens of further administrative proceedings. Further, while the Agency denies liability, it believes that the settlement is consistent with and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that the United States Mint at Denver is a model workplace that fosters diversity and equal employment opportunity.


The parties believe that the settlement agreement represents a fair and just resolution of the matter.

"We" does not include those of us who already ignore the grossly overpriced stuff put out by the marketing specialists at the mint.

 

Maybe I'm gettting old but I think I remember when ordering from the Mint on line was a little cheaper becaue there was no S&H charges. Now recently there was. Ordering by mail used to always have that and that was when I started to order on line. Also, since we are paying for the Mint with our taxes, shouldn't they be giving us the coins free since it would and should be a reward for letting them have a job?
