That is not an error. It is damage. Your coin has had a hard life. The big hit to Roosevelt's forehead flattened the corresponding area on the reverse. Your dime is worth 10 cents. I would spend it if I were you.

I don't think that's a roosevelt dime- It looks more like Herman Munster.

    The question is...

How do YOU explain how the minting process caused this?

    Post Mint Damage.

    I agree.
Every response has told you it's circulation damage.
The folks responding have much knowledge of the coin minting process, where you apparently have none.
It is impossible for anyone other than the person that caused the damage to know how it was damaged.
Because we can't tell you how it was damaged, you insist it must then be a mint error.
Because of your insistence, now you must tell us why we're wrong and you're right.
    Please educate us.

A mint employee was bored during his 15 minute break and pummeled this dime with a blunt object, then put it back when his break was done. That's the only way this happened at the mint. ;)

I just love it when the newbies come here with a coin that they think will pay off their mortgage, car and student loans and park them on Easy Street for the rest of their lives, and then tell the knowing folks here that they don't know what they are talking about when told their coin is only worth face value.

I don't place myself very high on the list of those knowing folks, but they have taught me to be able to tell the difference between mint errors and circulation damage.
