Will there even be a quarter in 20-30 years, after this program is over...Shoot will there even be a dollar?
I don't think this country, let alone the currency will be the same in 30 years, but if it was... I wouldn't mind just putting an eagle, and lady liberty on the coin and keeping it that way...FOREVER. (Just the ideal of liberty staying on the coin forever, not the same design forever)

How about celestial bodies, hubba hubba!

no really maybe designs with our colonized moon, US progress on Mars, visits and missions to Jupiter, Io, Saturn, Titan... anything the US visited, conquered or inhabits 25+ years from now, and memorializing about the space program looking back from that future point in time... before they start discovering Precious Metals on the other planets and moons and messing up the interstellar economy.

Isn't "LIBERTY" already on every coin?:whistle::whistle::D

Several state quarters already used their State Birds during the states quarter program... South Dakota, South Carolina, Minnesota, California (is it the state bird?, there is a bid on reverse), Oklahoma, the Virgin Islands and Northern Mariana designs also have birds, Idaho is probably the largest bird featured on the current quarters.

I, like many people on here think that the designs of many modern coins could definately be better, but unlike many people on here, I don't necessarily disagree with having people on the coins. Come on, Lincoln? Kennedy? Washington? Eisenhower? FDR? I couldn't imagine what life would be like without these great leaders.

Well, let's compromise. I think it would be cool to have one denomination (ie the quarter) that continues to evolve over time and has a different series every few years, while the others (maybe with the exception of the Lincoln penny) go back to a more classic look. I understand this is kinda why we have commemoratives but I think it would be cool to have one coin that is always "fresh". Probably slow the counterfeiters down a bit too :)

So instead of presidents on our "evolving" coin, how about other famous humanitarians, world-class leaders that fought for mankind as a whole, scientists that changed the course of history, or famous artists or musicians. Einstein, Mother Theresa, Churchill, Ghandi, Newton, Galileo, Beethoven, DaVinci, etc. etc.

    What do you think?

Well you're extending the list to non-Americans for a US Coin program in your idea and remember there was that Commemorative American Arts Gold Coin program that attempted to use such people who contributed to society via the arts and every subsequent person who has already had their moment on coin via the modern commems.

OK, but even as Americans we have benefitted from the contributions of all of these people. And I realize that we have commemoratives, as I said. I don't know I thought I was thinking outside of the box.

We could 50 state everythings (state parks, rocks, etc etc) but how long can that last before it gets old? I actually think the birds is a better idea than the state parks.

Agreed it is boring, but in contrast to that, we don't need more dead people on our coins.

LADY LIBERTY...BALD EAGLE...AMERICAN FLAG... Something that shows what this country is supposed to really be all about!

I agree...thats why I said that other than one or two denominations we should go back to more of a classic look

I would like to see a consistant design come back for the quarter. preferabley Lady Liberty on the obverse and an eagle reverse. :thumb:

I think alike with your choice of iconic symbols  and also feel they present the most widely accepted and enjoyed designs when considered across the spectrum of people who look at, design and work with coins as well as those boards of review and congressional members who deal in coin bills. They seem to stand the best chance at being what we can rely upon for the return of a consistent image or device on coins.

How about State County and Parish Quarters. Every year would highlight a different state and each week the mint could produce a new quarter featuring one of the counties or parishes from that state. The series could run for 50 years.

So you don't think there should be anything on the coins? :)

No, it isn't on the flying eagle cent, two cent, three cent silver, shield nickel or Presidential dollars. OK the SOL is on the Presidential dollar but the word? Nope had to go. No more LIBERTY. (How did they know about the 2008 elections? :) )

KY has 108 counties, they'll need a little over two years, and IN has 68 so well need almost a year and a half. You saw the numberof counties listed for the US county cent proposal. Even at one per week your talking over 60 years. (Only 20% off, close enough for government work.)
