Looking for world coin dealer recommendations

My impression (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong) is that the US coin pricing is very current, available, and complete. World coin pricing is no where near as complete or availalbe (i.e. there is no grey sheet for world coins). Seems to me Krause World Coins only provides a general idea, not a current market price.

Assuming I'm right, then I'm more at the 'mercy' of the dealers I patronize. And, being new, I don't yet have a great baseline to evaluate a dealer. I.e. if a US coin dealer tries to sell me a MS60 1922 Peace Silver Dollar for $40 I know he's asking too much; I know because Coin Values, Coin Dealer, etc. tell me. So, I'm less likely to trust that dealer. I don't have the same measure for a world coin dealer.

To make matters worse, I'm buying 'nickles and dimes', with my most extravagent purchase yet being a beautiful WW1 era German Mark for $18. Most dealers just push their boxes at me and ask the price penciled on the 2x2; it seems to me I don't rate too much attention or accomodation.

Therefore, I'm hoping to find a reliable world coin dealer who I can trust and don't have to constantly cross check against current market. Maybe its an ideal or fanasy, but I'd like to be able to know that the price I'm being asked is a fair market rate, and concentrate on the coins not price level.

Is this a pipe dream? Or can someone recommend a good solid world coin dealer? Or, is there a world coin equivalent to the grey sheet (maybe by country?) that I can refer to?

Thanks very much for any guidance or information you can share,
    Mike

Guess that, if you wanted to find current prices for US coins, you would not rely on the Krause alone either. ;) Problem is, price guides for what Americans call "world" coins may well be available but not necessarily in English - and they will reflect prices in, for example, Germany which may be a little different from US prices.

The MünzenRevue magazine (monthly) has a price guide for coins from the German Reich (1871-1948), GDR (1949-1990), Federal Republic (1949-today), Austria and Switzerland (mid19c-today) and euro coins (1999-today). The current issue of the magazine is here: http://www.gietl-verlag.de/blaetterkatalog/Zeitschriften/MR-1-2008-pro/blaetterkatalog/index.php The price guide is not among the free pages though ...

    Howdy Mike -

The link already given to you by rlm will provide a list of some of the better and trustworthy world coin dealers. The following link will provide other links where you can check on realized auction prices for world coins - Price Guides - Make sure you check all of the links there, quite a few of them will contain world coins as well US coins.

For Indian coins, check www.ebay.in and about 90% of the price quoted would be the current price in the market.. For rare coins of India, always go for dealers overseas (I mean outside India). The coin business is heating up a lot here and we the collectors are left helpless..
