This is an excellent site with a focus on Roman Republican coins only. It is rich in information for beginner and advanced collectors alike.

If you want books, just search the Ancients section. The topic comes up frequently and there are lots of good suggestions.

Haha! Well FORVM Ancient Coins hosts numismatic websites and have several useful articles in their reference section - that was where that link went. FORVM Ancient Coins is a dealer but they also they also operate their own forum, user gallery to store pictures, host numismatic websites, and have several articles. It is a very good resource.
