Looking for some advice to clean up my photos

I took my first photo and was relatively happy with it, but I couldn't figure out how to make it my second one cleaner looking. I had the same settings for both coins. Focusing was slightly different cause the coin just looked blurry the other way. If this is the wrong place for this topic plx let me know. And was something done to modify the second coin, cause it just doesn't look like any other 43 cent I have seen?

Your pics are good , you just need more light ... alot more light. but aside from that the pictures are great !

    The first pic is awesome!

Different coins require different setups. If you're using a DSLR, it makes the setup a bit easier. For the second coin, you definitely need more light. I usually position two lights at 10 and 2 o'clock to the coin and try to get the light as high as possible, without creating a shadow from the camera. You could also increase the compensation +1 or so will help. Make sure you use the largest aperture while preserving high shutter speed, at least 125. I find my pics come out sharpest with a shutter speed of 165 or so with aperture of 6 or so.

    Good luck!

You've got two VERY different types of coins.
Your handling of the proof is very good. Proof are tough to image.
But you'll need a considerably different setup for the steelie.
More light as Doverboy said. The matte finish on that coin scatters light all over the place so not as much comes back to the camera. Then you can make camera adjustments after that if necessary.

I too am attempting to set up a new photo system for coins.

My next step is going to be

    1) :D I need to GET a proof shinny coin

    2) Cut a hole in a piece of cardboard & shoot through it so I do not end taking a photo of the camera.

That seems be be my problem when taking a photo of a mirror surfaced object.
Plus, my camera is cute to look at because it is faced with chrome so I end up with a mirror looking at a shiny chrome surface reflecting onto a mirror.....etc.

So next week after my ordered Silver Eagle arrives I'll try out my new system.
    Wish me luck!
