I'm not sure if it is the most up to date, but I have the same edition and find it very informative and a good resource to have. They spend quite a bit of time on tiny varieties of early coins as if someone is actually going to try for all of them like Bass, but still a good read.
To add to what Kirk said, it's a fine book for general info, but depending on your needs/interests, and as with many coins, there may be and/or likely are better books available. It's a worthwhile addition that can often be had secondhand for a very fair price.
Thanks for the info. I received the book today. I'm not much of a gold collector but it's going to be fun learning more about this area of collecting.
