Sorry for the non-descriptive title, just not sure what to call it.

Looking for some background info on this coin. I got this back in the 70's I think. As you can see it has "copy" stamped on it. Could it be worth anything more than the coin pictured with it? Here are the pics. Would be interested in hearing anything about it!

    Thanks!

    John

I don't know anything about it, but it looks like a New Hampshire coin that is in the red book. I see "copy" on your coin that I do know...

The main difference in the devices is that I can't see any remainders of AMERICAN,
on the copy's obverse except for the N. And on the reverse, there are the initials MC on the copy and none on the original. Maybe it is just a bad copy? I know also that there are some ( which are called doubtful origin) that may have WM ( the initials of the designer William Moulton, but MC ????

So that was supposed to say AMERICAN? Wow, this really is a bad copy. I mean, there's not even a hint of the other letters which makes no sense at all for normal wear.

Thanks for the New hampshire reference, above. I just found our "17th edition * 1964 red book" and can see the coin from which this was "copied". The picture in the book also shows just the "N" and the initials "M. C" - although the initials are hard to read in the book, but definately looks like a "C.".

It has the word "Copy" stamped into it; therefore it was never intended as anything other than a replica and has no value as a collectible.

For more information, take a look at the Hobby Protection Act of 1973, which requires the word "Copy" on all replicas of actual coins.
