I found this site about 2 weeks ago and ever since I have been looking through my change at work for star notes. The good news is I finally found one the bad news is that it’s a $100.00 . I was wondering if it’s a keeper or a spender. Not sure how to do pictures so I will just put a link to them. Also I do think the scan make the bill look a little better than it is. Thanks for all your input http://gtg44.com/coin/100o.jpg http://gtg44.com/coin/100r.jpg
well my friend i would say you have struck gold with that bad boy. that is from a really short print run of only 640,000 notes. that is the only run of star notes for the 1981 $100 series. in that condition it is about a $500 note. in CHCU it goes for $900. great find :thumb:
I would have never dreamed this would be that valuable. Should I consider getting it graded? The bill seems crisp but it does have a light crease down the middle and it doesn’t lay completely flat. Like I said before I think the scan makes it look a little better than it really is. Thanks for your help.
no i wouldnt waste the time to get it graded. you can either keep it or sell it on ebay. this is one note that should get a premium because of its scarcity. only problem sometimes its harder to sell large denominations. the choice is your. either way its a great find for face value. :thumb:
For that much possible value over the face, yes I would have it graded. Heck I been looking for a star note for around a year and I got tired of looking so I bought one. Now you gotta find a way to keep it!! way to go!!
the problem is i dont think getting it graded will add anymore premium. especially since the OP is saying that the note looks better in the scan then in hand. but once again i am not an expert just an avid collector
I've got a $100 1969A NY District star note serial B00464712* can't seem to find any info out there on print run numbers... can anyone give me a hand here any info would be appreciated thanks guys
1969A NY had 640,000 star notes printed. in that series every district had star notes and NY is the highest printed.
I know it’s hard to grade a note from a scan, but does anyone want to give it a shot? I’m thinking XF or slight possibility of AU. I'm also thinking that I might be blowing smoke up my own a$$.
