I've been trying to buy rolls of Kennedy Half Dollars at my bank and some of the larger stores close to my house. They all are telling me they don't have the half dollars rolled, they want to sell them to me unrolled. Please tell me if there is any place I can find rolled Kennedy Half Dollar at a fair or even price. Thanks all.
I have been to 4 banks looking for them. Two did not have any rolled, just what ever the cashiers had in the tray. The third had $90 worth of rolled which I bought. When I got to my vehicle, I realized the stamp on the rolls came from the coin store! so they had already been picked through. The fourth bank had $140 worth, I bought $100 and managed to find a 1967 40% Kennedy. I will try more on payday, try bigger banks, not so much credit unions.
I've never seen Walmart or any store with halves, just banks (with the exception of a gas station in the middle of nowhere)
I generally carry around $1000 with me at all times. When I drive by a bank I haven't visted in a while (or ever) I go in and buy up all of the halves they have. I would say about a third of the banks I visit have them. I don't know if the ones that say no are really out or they just want to get rid of me. I have had the best of luck with branches of BOA (my bank). I also don't have to use cash they just debit my account. I have not found any silver in a while except for an entire roll of silver half proofs I found in early March. Someone must have raided a collection.
Usually, if it's a bank you have an account with, you can ask them to check the vault. They don't have rolls in their drawers and don't want to unnecessarily make customers wait. Go during non-peak hours. It helps if they don't feel they're making other customers wait for pulls from the vault. I don't mind accepting what's in the drawer. That's, strangely, where I find the most Franklins. Rolls sometimes have them too, but I find much more success with drawers. If you befriend the tellers (and go there daily), you can even ask them if they have any "funny money" that day. I've gotten two $5 FRNs (the ones that say a legal tender note is in the reserve for that note), multiple $1 silver certs and a Hawaii note once this way.
you can ask the bank to order you a $500 box of them. but nothing good comes from them I went thru 3 boxes and not a 1. the hand rolled ones are your best bet or the ones right on the counter.
