Hi All, I'm thinking that I want to get into collecting paper money, but I want to do a little reading before I start buying. I realize that there's lots of different types of notes and lots of different varieties. I think that I'm interested in getting started with silver certificates. Can anyone recommend a book on those? Thanks! -StephenS
i have 3 books in my collection for US paper money. 2 of them i use frequently, the 3rd not so much. The 2 i really like are the Friedberg book and the shinquist (bad spelling lol) book. The 3rd book i have i rarely use and cannot remember the name or author. Heck, i cant remember the name of the 2 i use but do a search for the authors names, and the books should pop up good luck!
the best book for production info is the schwartz/lindquist price guide, currently the 8th edition is the most recent with the 9th edition due in a year or less. the freidberg book does not list the rarities but is also a good resource for information on production. the best way for you to find out what you should expect to pay for a certain note, in a certain grade, is to do alot of looking FIRST! go to heritage's websiteand search thier archives, the best place to see what things have sold for! it's free to join and you may even get a free auction catalouge or two!! hope this is helpful, Lew
WOW, did i butcher that books author my 'shinquist' book is actually what lewminator mentioned. the true author(s) is schwartz/lindquist .. now can you see how i butchered it lol
Another good book for information is the Guide Book of United States Paper Money by Arthur and Ira Friedberg. The pricing in this book is no so up to date but the information is good. Also Q. David Bowers has some great books on currency!! Do a goggle search using his name. RickieB
