I stuck a $5 bill in the stamp machine, and this was in my change: For some reason my scanner goofed up the color. It's standard Sac Dollar yellow. The edge lettering is extremely faint, but it's there.
Vending machines is about the only place you will find these coins and also SBA's are still floating around. It's probably easier than designing the machine to give currency back and will hold more change using dollar coins instead of a bunch of quarters.
Hontonai, if the edge lettering if very faint, you may have what PCGS is calling a "weak edge" lettering variety. So far, PCGS has attributed two varieties to the Sac this year. One is "weak edge" lettering and the other is "partial edge" lettering. Not to my knowledge has anyone found a "no edge" lettering one, but I am sure it is just a matter of time. PCGS MS 66 weak edge lettering ones have been selling on ebay between $50 - $150 and the MS67 ones are going well over $100 or more. Partial edge lettering has been selling for well over $300.
The Post office made the announcement about phasing out the machines about the same time as the introduction of the President dollar and the phase out was to be over a three year period. The three years haven't ended yet and I would not surprise me if they ran over the three years somewhat.
