I am elated!! This finishes up my Lincoln set, about an 8 year journey!! (now I got to take care of all of these UPGRADES!)
Congratulations! And Nice coin! I'm envious EDIT: Wait...After examining the scan closely, I noticed there were some numbers on it, at the bottom on the back of the coin. What is that? It says "1.978"
Very nice. I hope to own one someday. Started my Lincoln collection back in the 1960's, and am still waiting for "the key."
Since no one posted your answer I will give it a shot. 1909 was the only year the VDB was on the reverse. From 1918 it went on the obverse but obscure. The 1909S VDB is to me the most key coin for the lincolns. VDB stands for the designer Victor D. Brenner.
One word.....WOW !!!! Looking again, it looks like it's pretty dirty. Maybe you should give it a good "cleaning"!!!!
Here is a close up cush66 pretty much summed it all up in a peanut shell. I have been collecting Lincolns for around 8 years now, boy I wish I would have bought this baby back then!!
Nice going NDGOFLO! That is a nice one. Maybe some day I will be able to get my hands on one for my collection. coinsngolf
You know, Kokomo is pretty close to Bremen. I think you should send that to me for closer inspection.
I remember wanting one in the 60s, but they were going for almost $300 in BU. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. But then I also remember getting over 35 times face for ANY silver coin in 1980.
Ndgoflo, congratulations on getting a V.D.B. 1c. coin.Does the V.D.B. 1c. exist with the 'D' mintmark & in the plain variety (no mintmark) as well?.
It exists in the "plain" variety from Philadelphia. The VDB varieties are a one year only issue (1909), the Denver mint (D) did not start minting until 1911.
