I stopped by a drive thru at lunch today and when I looked at my change I was amazed to see what I got. Not only was I surprised to get something like this, I was amazed by the condition. It's going straight into my Type Set...

Somebody had to have spent a fathers, brothers, sisters, etc coin collection. That thing is way too nice to have spent the last century kicking around, but I must admit it is a beauty

That's my first thought too. Although my brother in laws dad had a jar full of coins, old IHC's, Morgans, Barbers, along with more modern stuff, that he'd just had on a shelf for years & last year he was just going to take them to the bank & try to run them through the coin machine, but at the last minute we caught him. He didn't care what they were 'worth', just that he had X dollars in change. So who knows.

Brian, that is a very nice find.We don't get any foreign coins in change at all nowadays,as we changed over to smaller 10c.,20c.,& 50c. coins last year over here in New Zealand.Prior to the change over to smaller coins,we were getting some different types of coins in change from other countries, especially Australia,Fiji,& Great Britain.

    Now this one is noteworthy.

What a fluke that it got out and you were the first to look at it.

    Very Nice!!! Congrats!

I found a 1972 Double Die (cent) tonight!!! Small variation of course - not the $$ one :) I'll still take it though.

I went back just for the heck of it to see if I could come up with anything else. They weren't busy when I got there so the guy who works the drive up every time I go there indulged me.

It turns out the Barber along with the following coins that I picked up are from a collection. He said an "old guy" came in with them this morning & spent them. Said they were extras from his collection & he figured he'd put them back into circulation since none of them were "anything special".

Here's what else I ended up with...

1941 Walker (VF+ to XF, very tarnished)
    1977 Kennedy
    2x 1979 SBA's
1897 Barber Quarter (in much worse shape than the other one)
    4 1943 Nickels (2xP, 2xS)
    3 1941 Nickels
2 1940 Nickels (1 is very high quality)
    Wheaties (1909, 1916S, 1934x2, 1936, 1938S, 1939S, 1940, 1941, 1943, 1944, 1944Dx3, 1944S, 1945S, 1946, 1946D, 1947D, 1950S, 1953Dx2, 1954, 1955, 1956D, 1957D) F-XF
    IHC's (1906, 1907x2, 1909) F-VF
IHC 1890 VF-XF (the patina is completely black, it's kinda neat)

I guess there were a few others, there were a lot of other Wheaties & a few Buff's that were handed out before I got there, but it's a pretty good haul for face value. After I figure out which if any of the Wheaties I need I'll probably put those back into circulation.

NOTHING SPECIAL! Jeez - that guy must have a whopper of a collection if he felt what he put into circulation was nothing special!!! lol

I love people like that though - makes my coin hunting experience that much more enjoyable :) I am a MAJOR Wheatie hunter. I've found nearly 6,000 to date!

I got this penny in change at the Moffett Commissary in early March
I saw immediately that there was something "wrong" with it.

It could not have been in circulation for 60 years and looked this good.
It was probably in somebody's collection and somehow got spent.
It is out of circulation again.
