Beautiful MS65RD 1972 Doubled Die Lincoln Cent. Paid $500. Can you spot the problem? I am sending back for my refund as we speak. The nerve of some sellers who try to shovel their crap on honest people. It is stuff like this that disheartens new collectors and only continues to cause skeptical buyers to think all coin dealers are scammers. Nothing in the description mentioned this. None of his photos took it from the angle to display it. This absolutely MUST be told to prospective buyers as there is no way this seller didn't know...no chance. The photos you see were taken by me after I received it. These were NOT what the seller displayed.
If the fingerprint didn't matter to PCGS, I guess it didn't matter to the seller. I'd like to see the seller's photos. Chris
I think P&G meant that he looked at the listing on eBay. I’d agree that the fingerprint is visible in those photos, especially the closeup. But I’d also agree that the seller should have called it out.
Yes, the fingerprint is visible even in those terribly dark photos. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Linco...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
I would have to wonder if he was hiding the print or, couldn't capture the DDO under better lit circumstances.
Fingerprint? SO WHAT! It's a 1972 Doubled Die! Stop crying! It would of been worse if it was Improperly Cleaned! I will take it if you don't want it!
The seller said the "white areas" are from the camera exposure. Therefore, that was intentional deception to explain away the photo.
So, if this happened to you, you wouldn't be bothered? Especially for a $500 coin? He also attempts to explain away the white marks in the photos and doesn't list it in the description. How much more do you need to see he tries to dump a problem coin here? And if you want it, that'll be $513 please.
Not at all! That is a great price for a MS 65 RED See if you can find another in that condition for that price I guess we all have our own unique preferences
Do grading companies list details for fingerprints? I don't know about anyone else. But I hate fingerprints. TNC in Florida did the same to me with a full step silver nickel. No mention and not clear in photos. They paid to have it shipped back as well.
We all have preferences I agree. But fingerprints ruin coins. Honest sellers must disclose this. I did when I sold my 1928 peace dollar around Christmas. And provided photos.
So, a good question to ask is, did the fingerprint show up because of how it was handled at PCGS? Would it have graded that high with it showing like that? Maybe it developed after it was encapsulated.
I have no problem whatsoever sending a coin back to the seller, if it's been misrepresented in the listing... I've done it more than once. But this coin is in a slab, if it were me, i'd try to sell it and cut my losses that way.
No question for me. My simple phone camera got this first try. I will never buy anything from that seller again. I have no patience for those who try and take advantage of someone who they hope might not notice
I don't mind paying more than what Heritage averages in recent months...But I do mind deception, especially intentional. Fingerprints affect values.
