I have a shipment of halfs coming in and didn't know what to look for exactly. I do know to look for silver (71 and under right?) but what else? Anything to look for in some of the newer dates? Since I've only been looking for silver I know that I'm missing something.

If so what would be the value of some of the others if found.

Just look for anything "unusual". Sorry, but that is all I can say.:D

The problem is I wouldn't know what is "unusual". Thanks though!

    Actually 70 and under, 65-70 are 40%, 64 and under are 90%

Some people save 2001 and up (excluding 2005) because they weren't issued for circulation

    Also save proofs ("S" mint)

unusual probably means any errors, blank planchets (no design on the coin), off centers (design not centered, usually leaving part of the planchet blank), and wrong planchet coins (Ike dollar on a half dollar planchet, boy that would be something).

    Thats about it, good luck!

look carefully at the edge, I have found a few partially struck out of collar. Instead of reeding, it will be flat, but stick out as far or further than the reeds. (I posted here about it before with pics). I save the ones with no FG initails under the eagles leg as well. Good luck!
