Look at this crazy coin! What is it??

    My friend gave me this 2014 d quarter...don't know why it has copper around the edges. Is this a mistake? Was it made this way on purpose? What is this thing?

    Looks like it could be a die cap, but could also just be pmd.

    It certainly didn't come from the mint in that condition.
    That coin was altered by someone with access to a lathe and too much time on their hands.
