I've heard the long beach coin show is going down because the CA government made the paper work too painful. Is that true?

What coin shows do you guys consider as major coin shows in US?
IMHO, Three ANA, three Baltimore, three long beach, FUN show and central states are. Any other candidates?

I hadn't heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me at all. CA is in the business of driving away business. If only they made money at it we'd be the richest area in the world!

Depends on what coins you collect. The NY international is the largest for ancients and probably world coins. CICF is next largest, (maybe after the ANA), for world and ancients.

For US coins your list is probably right.

I doubt it is paperwork. It could be taxes and costs to do the show for some dealers. CA does have a tax exemption over $1500.

Really it is promotion. LB and Santa Clara are both great facilities but very little promotion. Little seems to be done to help them and this year Santa Clara is the same weekend as Baltimore which could kill it for good. Right now the east coast shows are far dominant over the west coast.

California tax laws and overall anti business climate are the reasons that the ANA give for not hosting their big shows in Ca. But I had not heard the Long Beach show is in trouble. It always seems busy when I go.

I find that hard to believe. Then, again, CA has done everything possible to self-destruct. I would call this beautiful state "Paradise Lost." Very sad, indeed. :so-sad:

There is a reason that I am fascinated with the third century of Ancient Rome:

No further statement from me on anything later than 1837.
