I thought I would show you all my latest copper - this time not a large cent, but rather a London Elephant Token.

A popular issue, and said to have been struck at the tower mint in London around 1694. It probably never circulated in America, but interesting because of its unusual obverse, and because it shares the same obverse die as it more famous (and much, much scarcer) cousins bearing the 'God Preserve Carolina' and 'God Preserve New England' reverses.

This particular example is low grade, but it has very smooth surfaces, with a nice, even chocolate color. It is the more common thick planchet variety. I have always wanted one, and am happy with this one.

Nice example, I have always liked this "colonial".
I owned a thin planchet variety but sold it to help start my shop about 6 months ago.
