I laughed out loud when I read this section from Francesco Gnecchi's Roman Coins: Elementary Manual (London, 1903), page 3.
I guess then that it's like I got married later in life. At least in my mature years I have learned to better appreciate my little gems of history which shall survive this old collector.
I assume Francesco died a life-long bachelor? btw The passage sounds like a rationalization. Not sure if it is wrapped in a joke or a sincere expression, but he got an award for his collection, so his theory bears some merit........
I'm curious about your curiass .....in your avatar. That is what it is, isn't it? Ancient or replica?
yeah,that one's old.. i don't know exactly how old, i would reckon 14th-17th century Iberian/ Portuguese.
It might also be said that he who laughs best probably got to keep his entire collection as part of the divorce decree. Chris
