http://cgi.ebay.com/Low-Grade-Worn-...hZ005QQcategoryZ41103QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem LOL! Who would pay to get this thing graded?????
wow...I just recently pulled one out of circulation that is in better condition than that, I got it for $.50
Garbage fpr sale If you check into this seller's other auctions he has some high grade stuff. I thought he was reputable until now. I sent him a question and here it is. "Hello, I've seen some of your stuff before and you seem to be a reputable seller. A rarity on ebay these days. So please tell me why you would list a piece of garbage like this coin (slabbed or not) and have a buy it now of $150? The coin is so worn it's not even worth original junk silver. Has ebay truly come to that? Thanks, clembo" I'll keep you posted on any response and urge you to check out his auctions and ask questions. A little irritation does not hurt "the cause".
The joke is that a Seller with a Feedback rating of 99.9% with 3235 feedbacks would even offer such a coin up for auction, much less with a "Buy It Now" price of $150! It is a totally absurd auction! The Seller must not like his or her Feedback rating and is trying to get it knocked down quie a few percentage points. Frank
Isnt this the person repeatedly used as an example for artificially toned coins? I mean, look at the flourscent pink cents.....they are slabbed but they are unreal too..... That being said, there was once a person on CT who was trying to put together a US type set of slabbed P01 Coins..... It may be worth $150 to someone that way lol
Here's one possibility - there are actually collectors w/registry sets on PCGS who list 'the best of the worst' and their goal is to get the lowest grade (weighted average) ... one of my friends buys those ~ his goal is to get PO1's ... but he does buy them raw & sends them to get graded. He has told me he's sold several PO1 Morgans for $500+ ... so ... it's possible this seller maybe should have added an explanation or just felt anyone w/the same goals would recognize it. That doesn't make it logical, I asked my friend w/the PO1 goal if he lost his mind the same time he won the lottery to pay to have the coins graded but to each his own. Check out the registry sometime ~ you'll see his listing.
I agree with Coingal07. Ya'll need to cut this guy some slack. There is bunch of collectors wanting the lowest grade while others want the highest! We all agree that each person should collect what he wants so I don't see anything wrong with this. In fact, the guy could have asked alot more for the coin and I still wouldn't see anything wrong with it. I have a Morgan dollar that I have been carrying with me for years and here in a few months I'm going to send it to NGC to get the PO1 grade! I think I'll find a buyer for it, since NGC has only graded ONE other coin from this year and mint this low! Speedy
I have a common date Peace dollar in low AG condition. If I get it slabbed will it be worth something?
Well I hope so! NGC in their POP reports puts the numbers for PO1 and AG together...so I really can't tell if the one that they graded was PO1 or AG! But mine is PO1 for sure! It doesn't even have enough eye appeal to bump it to AG!!!!! Hamman: There is really no sure answer. While there are people collecting the lowest grade out there, you have to find them to sell it....and they have to want the coin before you will sell it. If I were you I would put that coin in your pocket and use to for awhile untill it gets down to PO1! Speedy
I know a dealer that buys coins from the bank and sends them in for grading. Then takes them to coin shows or sells on ebay. Makes a lot of money doing that. Every time I go to the bank I always get from 4 to 6 rolls of halves to spend for the fun of it. Many, many look much better than that thing, but if I had them graded, someone would buy them. Like the movie, build it and they will come. Slab it and someone will buy.
I understand that most 1964 Kennedy halves were kept as souvenirs and so most are in nice condition. So finding one that worn is unusual. My mom recently found a roll of them which her mother had kept. And she was a Republican.
It's a pocket piece, worn to perfection...now a top-pop coin. There are actually low-ball registry sets nowadays and old Brad is trying to make a buck or two. :mouth:
Seems reasonable to do that. I do question his pink and rainbow Lincoln cents though! just ridiculous!
I agree. Collecting low graded coins in holders has become popular among some collectors. PCGS now has a "low ball" registry set. Even though it may not suit all collectors, some people may be willing to pay this sort of money for a low grade piece like this.
Looking at the rest of his items for sale (magman's comments re the rainbows made me interested ) I think my original opinion was correct - noting how many of the other low pop items he's listing.
First off your common grade peace dollar is not worth grading. you will probly decrese its value by grading it and it would also probly be an insult to the grading company (unless you sent it to SGS or Hallmark to see if you could get a 70 out of it) but to the ebay seller this is clearly a joke or he just miss typed the buy it now price hints why he ended the auction early.
