I can't begin to tell everyone how happy I am! At the small local show last weekend I came upon a table that I've purchased from before. Now that I've become rather regular at these shows, people are starting to remember me. What I found particularly refreshing about this dealer is that they didn't completely disregard me and blow me off simply because I'm a woman. I took one of their cards thinking I should track down their shop one day. Yesterday we didn't have anything planned so my husband offered to drive me over there so I could see where it's at. It's only about a half hour away at most...dangerously close :D . When we walked in all 3 gentlemen remembered Joe & I. I felt like a kid in a candy store! They had a huge selection of just about anything that I could ever want to look for, with only a small portion being slabbed. Joe had fun picking through the obligatory 'treasure chest' and my husband even enjoyed chatting with a customer that we discovered only lives a few short blocks from us and claims to visit the shop about 3 times a week. Hmmm, I started thinking "car pool"! LOL

Needless to say, I could have spent all day in there. But for the sake of my husband's sanity I kept the visit to just about an hour with a vow to come back when he's at work and Joe is in school. My haul included a few goodies for my type set (which is still in it's infancy until I can do some more research), some supplies and a book that I've been hunting around for...The Complete Guide to Walking Liberty Halves! All in all a wonderfully satisfying trip. I can't wait to go back and spend some more time brousing the cases and scouring the huge selection of books.

I've found a hand full of shops here in the DFW area, but none that I would ever bother with stepping foot in again until yesterday.
I'm sorry that this post isn't informational or seeking help. I was just so excited by my find that I wanted to share it with all of you.

I travel extensively throughout the Southeast and I can relate to your excitement. Some people grab lunch, I like to "pop in" and see what the local shop has in store. I make a note and when I am back in town, I "pop in" again to see what's going on. Some store owners have good memories..."Ah, the penny guy is back" one stated to me on my return.

One thing FL shops have going versus others...NO SALES TAX on coin purchases. I was in Alabama and couldn't believe I was taxed on US coinage. I guess only us coin nuts can understand why we get giddy when we walk into a shop.

    The Big Score...!

Now that's the kind of day that you like having. It's fun and its what the hobby is all about. You would probably enjoy going with your new friend as you both have something in common (an addiction to coins).

I want to wish you all the best in the world. I will leave you with a subtle hint as to what you should do next GO FOR IT ...!!!

Nothing like some rest and relaxation in a coin shop! Hang around long enough and you start learning names and faces and the next thing you know....COIN FRIENDS!!! I am in my local shop almost every Saturday and that has gotten me a lot of perks through the years. Many a coin has been laid back until I make my next appearance and getting the FIRST opportunity to by something that is REALLY wanted by a large number of collectors is really a fantastic perk!!! My dealer and his wife are now very dear family friends as they know all of us by name and have given my boys some very nice coins, some slabbed, and a little gold through the years! It can't get any better than that!

Robin, that's great to hear! Not all posts have to be "informational" or asking a question. We also love to share the enjoyment of the hobby. However, now that you have admitted that you made purchases, you need to post pictures for us so we can enjoy them too :D

Of course we fellas will remember a lady - by definition any female collecting coins is a lady - in a coin store. It's like a woman who can tell you the difference between, and the various advantages and disadvantages of, a 4-3 defense and a 3-4 defense. We're so blown away that you can relate to us on our level that you'll stick in our heads better than the first kiss. I don't remember my first kiss, but I do remember when my wife first explained "full split bands" to a kid at a local coin show!

I have the same heartfelt respect for a Lady coin collector that I do a Lady hunter!!! I get a kick out of the ladies who for years wondered what in the world the old man was doing out in the miserable weather all those years so she decided to find out for herself. When she did, or does, she then is mad at her old man for keeping it a secret all those years and now he has a full time hunting partner! Have seen this time and time again and I, for one, think it is GREAT! And, I have a full time coin collecting spouse (who works...extra money here) and the kids are in to coins as well!!! Doesn't get any better than that!

Don't laugh, it sounds like you may have found a good coin friend who lives close by. Always a good thing to have. And if the two of you hit it off carpooling isn't a bad idea either.

As for remembering a lady collector, it's actually very easy. You have to admit it's not like they are going to confuse you with one of the others in the "multitude" of lady collectors they have as customers. It's kind of like having a customer who's seven feet tall. They kind of stand out.

Can you post the name & number of the shop you mentioned in DFW?

Also, what coin shows are around the area?

I'll help you out with that one!! Being that you are from Iowa, I can understand (I lived there for 1/2 my life). It's a football term, pretty much the setup of the defense. There's 11 guys on the feild, and 7 of them are up on or near the "line." You can either have 3 lineman down and 4 (linebackers and sometimes a lineman goes) back, or 4 boys at the line, and 3 back.

I remember when I lived in Iowa, all that we had were the Iowa Barn Stormers, and I didn't really pay much attention to them. Just watch a NFL game sometime, you'll see what I mean, and they get to be pretty addicting too!!

Unfortunately joesmom (I.e. Robin) isn't around all that often anymore, although I did see a post a couple of weeks back from her. So she may or may not see this on her next stop by. If you really want this question answered then you should probably click on her name (or avatar) and follow the link there to send her an email or pm. Good luck!

Robin is super nice, I met her at a FT Worth show a couple of years ago. Nice story, I love to hear about pleasant coin shop experiences. Hey ED ZAK how come you never come to my shop? :p

Thanks for the clarification- I don't follow either the Hawkeyes or Cyclones much and that's all that people seem interested in around here for football.
