I was fiddling around with a couple handfuls of Mems. last night and came across this 97. I'm an old wheatie and learning about the LMC series. This shiner caught my eye and after following some markers it looked like the DDO. However, on the reverse there's a close, almost over-lapping AM. I'm not sure it is even a double ear for sure so here's some of my pitiful photography. 1107180432.jpg 1107180432 (2).jpg 1107180447.jpg 1107180447 (2).jpg

You can improve your photograph by first turning off the flash on your phone/camera; then going to a well lit area (your eyes are great at seeing in the dark but your camera isn't).

Make sure it's well lit as we're talking for the camera sensor and not your eyeballs.

Then make sure it's not too close so that it can focus properly on the cent, and then crop as needed to post it here.

    Not a doubled die.

"Shown above are two views of the same photo of the 1997 "Double Ear" cent variety.
The top view displays all the areas of doubling highlighted in red.
The lower image shows the same image unobstructed by the highlight.

Subject: 1997 1c Doubled Die Obverse

    Variety Coin Register Number: VCR#1/DDO#1

    Cross References: CONECA-DD0-001, Wexler-DD0-001, FS#1c-043

Description: This Doubled Die Obverse, often nicknamed the "Doubled Ear," displays strong doubling of the curl of hair above Lincoln’s ear and ear lobe; less obvious doubling shows on the lock of hair in front of upper ear and throughout other areas of the hair (doubling shows in a total of 15 areas).
The cause is most likely due to a tilted die blank seating itself into proper position during the hubbing process -- a condition that has been confirmed as occurring by Mint workers with hands-on experience at both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. No matter what you want to call it -- doubled ear or doubled die -- it's becoming more and more popular as existing supplies are disappearing!"

That's fine and dandy, but that's not your coin.

Not sure if you are able to read die markers,Jr. Member, but if you are I would appreciate it if you would download my photo to your machine and add your own markers to offer some sort of fact based explanation to your comments. I think I am speaking for a lot of posters here, I personally don't take 4 to 6 word answers to my questions to heart without either a concrete , educated or detailed reason as to how you came to your conclusion (ie. die marker # 11 is not showing). As I said above, I am LEARNING the LMC series and unless you are Mr. Potter, Diamond, Weinstein, chief editor of Cherry Pickers, or equivalent , there is nothing educational, relevant or meaningful to short, borderline snide, opinions here. In other words unless you have something to actually offer, don't bother chiming in.

Ok, I'll offer. There is absolutely no doubling that I can see on your coin. You have to remember, you look for the doubling first, then the markers. You say you are learning, yet you want to admonish me. I've been doing this for years and Mr. Diamond has agreed with me more than disagreed. Just because someone has not written books doesn't mean they don't have knowledge. Attitude will change the way people respond to your posts, so don't alienate people just because they don't write a paragraph explaining everything to you!

Btw, how many posts I have in a forum has nothing to do with knowledge "new".

Then you should ask "Mr. Potter, Diamond, Weinstein, chief editor of Cherry Pickers, or equivalent"

No one is going to write a detailed analysis of why or why not the hundreds of newbies postings per week here asking the same question about their worn/ damaged/ plain coin. @GDJMSP
