DIOCLETIAN, as Senior Augustus. 305-311/2 AD. Æ Follis Diocletian.jpg

Alexandria mint. Struck 308 AD. D N DIOCLETIANO BAEATISS, laureate bust right, wearing imperial mantle, holding olive branch and mappa / PROVIDENTIA DEORVM, Providentia standing right, receiving olive branch from Quies standing left, holding scepter.

The XK under the A in the reverse field means what? Another denarius devaluation?

I think I found the answer. RIC 79. And the authors do think it signified another denarii downgrade. Thoughts?

Alexandria RIC VI 80 Diocletian, AE Follis, Alexandria, 308 AD. 24 mm; 5.9 gr. DN DIOCLETIANO BAEATISS, Laureate bust right in imperial mantle, branch in right hand, mappa in left / PROVIDENTIA DEORVM, Providentia standing right, left hand raised, facing Quies standing left, holding vertical branch and sceptre. Gamma over XK in middle field, mintmark ALE. RIC VI Alexandria 80 corr.

This is purely a guess, but I think it is further delineation of the workshop?

The following article may contain clarifying information. I tried to read it but to me it was the literary equivalent of a sleeping potion. :joyful:

Marks of Value on Tetrachic Nummi and Diocletian's Monetary Policy

    Another article, by ArmstrongEconomics

... and another, on acacemia.edu academia.edu, Diocletians Monetary Reform (Minus 20 points for the title's missing apostrophe :inpain:)

Minus another ten for misspelling Gryffindor! :p

 Gee, it sure is embarrassing when I get caught with a typo when correcting someone's spelling or grammar. You'd think I'd learn to shut up, but no.... :D

Read this outdated article if you must but the information in it has been discredited to my satisfaction long ago and an organization that charges students money to access it is doing nothing of merit for our educational system. It was once printed on paper which means it is better than anything you will read online. If you believe that last fantasy, I suggest buying their yearly subscription to unlimited materials. I hope some are better than this.

You don't have to pay to read the article, but you do have to create a user name and password.

I'm glad to hear that it is worthless though since it was too boring to read :D.
