Lions Club International commemorative goes on sale 1/18/17. Here is a link to the product page: https://catalog.usmint.gov/on/demandware.store/Sites-USM-Site/default/Search-Show?q=Lions I really do like the "cats" on the reverse. Maybe never look at the obverse? Thoughts? TC
Imo would have looked much nicer had they scraped the obverse face portrait and simply enlarged and centered the logo. Seems to be a very common thing the past few years with these commems that the mint gets one side but misses on the other.
I agree. The obverse design is just too crowded as is. Your suggestion would produce a much cleaner design, and the "In God We Trust" and date could be moved (perhaps the IGWT along the bottom and the date centered above it and below the logo) to clean it up. Old Melvin Jones might have been a helluva nice guy, but he doesn't help the design at all.
Nice reverse, terrible obverse. I have a family member in the Lions and he is buying, and so is all of his Lion buddies. Pass for me though.
I have to agree with others. Its as bad as a British Commonwealth coin, one side a complete throwaway.
The proposed reverse image of the lion disemboweling the American tourist was rejected by the CCAC...lol.
Lol I would get that one for the novelty of it. There is probably more truth to that than any of us realize
The Lions Club logo itself is actually pretty cool. I agree with you that they could have reduced the size of the portrait or perhaps used one with him wearing the Lions Club beanie. It might even look better with a smaller portrait on the reverse along with the partial pride of lions.
I know it can be tough to match the original drawing, but the lions look less real in the newer image (bottom); the mane looks like a mop. This makes me a bit more hesitant in picking one up.
