line / ridge on this 1984 ?? special flaw ?? Hello ANOTHER newbie here , is this line?ridge on this 1984 anything special ?? 2 photos here Thank You for reading my post art
Im still learning but I will try. My unexpirienced knowledge would say that is a die crack. That means the die that strikes the coin was cracked, allowing this tiny amount of the mettal to stay raised slightly more then the coin... causing the error you see. Others agree? Great pics by the way. I wish all newbies would do that. I know I didn't. -Bobby
The photos were hard to get , my camera really had a time trying to get close enough without fuzzing out . I had to snap fast . I would guess if I want to play the coin game I would need a great scanner . I have been on google trying to find a cent from this same year with the same flaw , but no luck . Is this common flaw/error ? I have lots of 1984 pennies ,but only found one like this so far .So it's uncommon at least in the batch I have . I kindda like it .
So why can't I find any like this on the internet ? Mine can't be the only one . I found many 1984 pennies through google , but none with this line .. Should I just asume it's too common to hold any value above a penny ? Or uncommon , but just worth a penny ? Thanks for sharing art
Die cracks on business strike coins especially on the smaller coins like the cent are one of the most common of errors and dont really have a lot of value added ,, its a cool crack though !!! its value to a collector of such coins would be above a penny, .25 to a dollar maybe depending on how bad it was wanted. Welcome to the forum !! Rick
Try this Take a toothpick and press down onto the line , not to hardand see if it moves, Here is a penny of mine and the raised area is a blister in the plating. If i press on the it it dissapears then comes right back.
