Hello, I have two quick questions on pennies and a jefferson... first the pennies...recently my grandfather's friend found out that iam a coin collector and so he gave me about 300 old circulated pennies...some wheats but mostly just lincoln's....i found some later date D's such as 1974 D...73 D....and some 60's that were also D's....whats the approximate price range for them...i would say that they are in good shape only they are brownish....you know how pennies are.... My next question is...i heard all this tallk about 1950 D jeffersons...then i looked that coin up in my "guide to US coins Blackbook"....it came up to only be about 10-15$...cant remember the exact price....is this right...because people are acting like its worth 75$... Pete-
First...read this thread from this forum: Determining Value Second...go here: http://www.ecoinprices.com/ and then here: http://www.coinfacts.com/ That should do it!
Peter, as for the pennies, most all are worth 1 cent, and that's it - unless you find some of the rare variety coins, like the 1972 doubled die cent, which looks a lot like the famous 1955 doubled die cent. Others include the 1995 doubled die cent, the 1960-P and 1960-D Large and Small Date coins, the 1970-S Small Date, and the 7 varieties of 1982 P/D cents. These can be worth a modest premium depending, as always, on condition. Second, about that 1950-D in great condition being worth about $10.... everybody hoists it up it a bit when talking about it because that is the "key coin" of the Jefferson series. That's the hardest one to find in circulation, and the hardest to find in BU. It's not anywhere near as scarce as a 1909-S VDB cent or a 1932-D Quarter, but it's the Jefferson key, and that's why it gets the recognition. ~AJ
