Lincoln Penny with only a 9 in the date

    I can not find anything online about a Lincoln penny with only the 9 showing as the date. Anyone know if this is rare or what it might be worth?

    Probably not rare, just a grease-filled die, but please go ahead and post some pics of obverse and reverse just in case ;-)

    Probably want to post pictures so people can see what it looks like to give you a better idea.

    Welcome Jerry to CoinTalk! Without pictures the experts cannot give you a reasonable response to your question. Post an obverse and reverse picture for viewing.

    Will do. I looked at it under a small magnifying glass and could not see any other slight imprint marks. Will post some pics when I get home today.

    The impressions into the surface where the other digits
    should be are the result of either a lamination, where the
    flake of metal came loose from the surface of the coin,
    or possibly damage, done on purpose. Hard to tell for sure,
    but I'll say the odds are it's a lamination in the date area.

    If so, it's worth a $1 or so as an interesting conversation piece to someone.
