Now that the Lincoln Memorial Series has ended, I've decided to put together a nice BU/Proof set while they're still relatively inexpensive. I figured I'd start with the keys and go from there. A few that caught my eye are the low mintage satin finish ones, particularly the 2008-P&D, with a mintage of approximately 745,000, which looks like the lowest mintage of the series. I know the 1970-S small dates are keys, but are there any estimates for their mintage? Any other thoughts about the series?

Grab all the 72 Double Dies you can. I hear a rumor they will soon be worth a lot of money. :) Possibly more than a dollar or two. :goof:
So what makes you think the Mint will not return that reverse someday?

It's really hard to get a good feel for the numbers released in circulation because so few were intercepted before they reached circulation or recovered once they did. There were 200,000 in mint sets and this is the primary source for them. I've never seen a BU roll except of coins assembled from mint sets.

Well, my understanding is an approved design is good for 50 years and takes an act of Congress to approve a change, which is unlikely. The 50 year rule is what allowed the change from the Memorial in 2010. Then too, if a change is approved sooner, I can't recall a time when we went back to an old design, I don't know did that ever happen?

Which 72 DD's are you talking about? I know the better variety is already in the 100's and there are some varieties available for a few bucks?

I have a set of these I started at the beginning of '09. It consists of 165 coins. It is very attactive I think to see all those little "copper" coins cartwheeling.

But sometimes when you post 2 identical threads you get confusing answers.
