Hello everyone, Quick Question about MAD errors. Do you think there worth collecting? I have a few hundred, or what i think are MAD errors, I have taken out of rolls. None are misaligned by much but I can see that they are. Just looking for some advice, am i wasting my time? Regards, S
You are not wasting your time if you like collecting them and do not mind spending the time to find them. Granted I know nothing about MAD coins, so I do not what kind of additional, if any, price it might bring. But I see nothing wrong with you doing something you enjoy - now if you are not enjoying it then - yes, maybe you should stop. Just my own opinion.
Mad Error is a Misaligned Die. I was told these were fairly common in the 80's. I will try to scan a few and post them Regards, S
MAD errors Howdy Coinman1974. All errors are worth collecting. No matter whether the experts have classifications for them or not. Not a coin that comes in our front door is safe from my prying eyes. Most of the time I give them back to the owner, but sometimes I keep them. I started spreadsheets for my coins. True errors have a separate sheet from my special anomaly errors, and each has it's own catalog number. I have collected over 200 anomaly coins and nearly fourty true error coins. Every minute of this is fun fun fun. So enjoy!... and share some of them with us so we can enjoy them also. And to think this all started out with a handful of cents. jeankay
Here are the Obverses of two of them. First one If you look at the 9 O'clock position you can see the rim is slightly thicker then the 3 O'clock position Second one If you look at the 9 O'clock position you can see the rim is slightly thicker then the 3 O'clock position Again I am not sure these classify as MAD Errors, if anyone knows other wise let me know. If anyone wants more I have a lot of them and can scan and post them, but I am slow at this so you have to be patient with me. Some of them show almost a double rim. i will see if I can find some of them too. Regards, S
Well it seems like I see dimes like that all the time, but checking the lincolns(which I do more carefully) I do not recall seeing one. You know what would be cool - a date set like that of lincoln memorials.
Here are three that to me look slightly?? like a double rim. In these which may be hard to see, there appears to be a flat surface right after the rim. Tak e a look. Image 1 Image2 Image 3 Let me know your thoughts. Again i tried to get the clearest pics i could. Hope you like them Regards, S
If you are like me and mad about Error Coins, then you collect just about everything that is an Error or just doesn't look right for one reason or another! One person's junk is another person's treasure! I probably have just about every type of oddity that could happen to a coin during the minting process. Frank
MAD again Hi Coinman, Don't know why, but no pictures came through when I viewed your posts. Bummer. This happens to me now and then. jeankay
Jeankay, I am not a computer expert, however I would think you may want to check your settings for your browser. I am sure someone on here has a lot more knowledge then me on this so listen to them first, LOL Regards, S
MAD very mad You are most likely right. Now, find a computer expert... I know one but he is about 600 miles away. Will find someone. Thanks jeankay
I have seen several of these in searching through rolls of cents. Collect what you like I always say!
If you like search for and saving MAD coins that's fine. If you are hoping for some premium value then you have to realize that the only ones that will have a premium are those that are so far misaligned that part of the design is missing.
As stated collect what you like. I've noticed these over the years and spent them. Maybe I'll look a bit harder and set them aside for some MAD collector. Hey, whatever I'm mad about coins.
