    Hi

Is this considered an error? If so, how common is it? Not much of the rim is missing, so I figure it should be pretty common.

Probably a misaligned die unless it's like that on both sides, then it's a off-center strike. Either way, no value unless it's more extreme than this.

It looks as if it's on both sides. If it has no value, I suppose everyone interested must already have it. Still, if anyone wants it, I'm glad to send it for just the shipping cost.

If it's an off-center strike, those are rarer than misaligned dies and there are those out there who collect them. However, I would think it would have to be at least 20% off-center to start commanding a premium.

You mean 20% of the whole coin?

20% off-center. It's usually when it's off-center enough that parts of the design are missing that they start commanding a premium. I sold one awhile back that was probably 50-60% off-center and it went for $12 if memory serves me correctly.

As Bhp3rd said, perfectly normal. Yes the obverse die isn't completely centered, but it wouldn't be considered a Mis-aligned die until part of the design is off the planchet. Even if both sides were like that in the same direction it would not be considered an off-center untill part of the design is gone. (It is possible to have both dies not completely centered, and in the same direction. As long as the whole design shows it is pretty much considered normal.
